Sweet Cuts, Tough Bits

I love pairing sweet-cute things with tough bits. Just like this ensemble. A sweet summer dress (from Bali), a girly cardigan (Fa Yuen St Market, Mongkok), and a pair of pretty shoes (Union)...

with a silver pendant (from Primark, London)

A tough rock chick belt (from Zara)

...and a macho boy leather bracelet (borrowed from sous chef, bought in Taipei)

They gave the sweet and cute look a special punch.

All remixed ^_^

Ethnic Batik Chic

Comfy cotton batik frock for summer. Wore it to work, with my favorite combo: belt belt belt!
But most of all, it's great to wear something nobody else wears (hardly anyone wears batik in Hong Kong, not even the Indonesian domestic helpers ^_^), it made me feel so special.

Dress = Batik cotton dress from Mal Ambassador Jakarta

Simply Fruity - A Home Decor Idea

We display flowers in glass vases all the time...or something fruits in a basket, but the way sc's mom returned my flower vase with a couple of bananas truly inspired me.
From this moment on, I shall use this method to create fruity centerpieces ^_^
Inspiration comes from everywhere, doesn't it?

Vintage Polka Dot + Modern Flowy

I love wearing vintage-modern mixes, such as this white-black-silver-pale-green/blue ensemble. I also have a thing for polka dotted goodies, including this thrifted top. I love the big sleeves, the neckline and the length of the top, which sits perfectly on my hips. I just added belt for extra definition.

Top = vintage, thrifted
Belt, skirt and bag = H&M
Shoes = Union
all remixed except the top

Pinks and Browns

Love summer dresses, hate jeans. So, I wasn't gonna wear a pair of stuffy jeans for last casual Friday at work.

I love of shades of pink look with dark chocolate brown. Thus I love this silky, satiny, flowy summer dress. Glad I have a dark chocolate belt, and I gotta get myself more shoes! I don't have dark choco or pink shoes, how is that possible??!!

Shredded Tights - Hot or Not?

I love all things shredded. Shredded pork, beef, chicken....credit card bills...

Should I love this shredded tights look? This outfit for 32C balmy, stuffy day.
Hot or not?

Is it just me, or the homeless long haired guy looked kinda grunge-chic?

Dressing Outta Boxes

Nonono. Not dressing out of the box. I am not talking about being creative or innovative or anything clever. This is literally dressing outta boxes, the challenge of finding clothing items from all the packed clothes inside the carton boxes or the famous Hong Kong blue white red bags.

Not an excuse to look ugly, eh? I wore this casual-comfy-girly ensemble shopping for home knick knacks last weekend.

Top = from Lady Story, Yaumatei MTR Station
Skirt = Cotton On, Mongkok
Shoes = Vincci, Kuala Lumpur
Bag = H&M

Mother's Day Flowers on HK Gangsta Folding Chair

This is one of those folding chairs which often appear in Hong Kong gangster/mafia movies, normally being used as a weapon to whack the heck outta the main actors in the movies.

I think it kinda looks pretty as a small side table, and the dual color carnations for SC's mom looked so pretty sitting on it.

In Indonesia, mother's day falls on 22 Dec. I still called my mum and wished her happy mother's day - the international version.

Here are some of the things why my mum is the best mum in the world (apart from the fact that she raised my sis and me alone and put up with all of our crap all these years):
- She lets me do pretty much whatever I like (look how not great I've turned out to be)
- She doesn't cook so she doesn't criticise the way I cook, but she taught me my first dish (the only dish she knows how to cook well, char kee kiew - stir fried vegetables and chicken)
- She forced me to attend ballet and electone classes (so I didn't end up rhythm and tone deaf)
- She never once asked me to wear longer skirts or higher cut tops (when you got it, flaunt it)
- She never sets a budget for my sis and me, but she simply sets a good example on how to spend reasonably (or is it our innate Javanese thriftiness?)
- My favorite mum quote: "If you are willing to work hard, you will never go jobless"
- Another favorite mum quote: "Let your man spend on you or himself, than on another girl" (indeed!)
- Favorite mum mispronunciations/special words: Gelael = galiel, KFC = ketakcy, sipatkuping, cau lut pai, ngorong (I am sure you have tonnes of words only you and your siblings know from your mum. Do share)

and many many more!

Happy mother's day, yummy mummies everywhere!

The Witch of Kowloon

Abracadabra! This useless witch could not even command the flat to clean itself, and the broom doesn't fly anywhere. Bah!

Life is too short to be underdressed (Another pointless philosophy which I don't always follow)

Summer dress = from Kuta, Bali
Cardigan = Fa Yuen St Market, Prince Edward
Belt = Argyle Center, Mongkok
Necklace = H&M
all remixed ^_^

I Want This on My Wall

I want one of these on my wall. Where do I get one?

Say It with Flowers - Hello Kitty Bouquet for Mom?

Say "I Love You" to mum with flowers, hope she won't say "That's such a waste of money! Here, let me teach you how to plant your own flowers and keep them alive". If the celebrating mum is into Hello Kitty, Yume florist (Central MTR Station near exit J) has just the bouquet for her.

Colorful Vintage + Black & White - Combating Friggin' Cold Office AC

I love my vintage chiffon dresses, but it gets too cold in the sub zero air conditioned office. Does it look good with black and white wool cardigan? I love the tiny little white hearts...sweet 'n cute.

Dress = vintage, thrifted
Belt = Argyle Center, Mongkok
Cardigan = Argyle Center, Mongkok
Shoes = Argyle Center, Mongkok
all remixed

Does Anger Solve Everything? My First Painting Experience

It's so frustrating seeing how anger and rudeness wins. I wish everything in this world can be solve in peace and niceties.

Remember my home makeover? We asked someone to remove the existing hideous wallpapers and painted our walls, as well as adding crown moldings.

I thought I am patient and understanding, but now I realized that I am probably just have absolutely no attention to detail, not to mention a total pushover. I noticed some imperfections in the paint job and some bad joints of crown moldings. They bothered me a little, but I was prepared to let it go. I didn't plan to complain. Maybe I just wanted the place to finish faster.

SC communicated with the painter, asked him (very nicely) to fix the imperfections, and he gave us millions of excuses. Pretty much bullied us. I was prepared to just let it be. I thought, if niceties didn't work, then nothing will.

I was wrong.

SC's parents stopped over to check on the flat, and SC's dad gave the painter a huge chunk of his mind. He gave one heck of a speech, complained about everything, almost fuming with anger. The painter got defensive, voices were raised, arguments were heated. I hated confrontations and felt uncomfortable with the whole thing. What if the painter decided to throw his towels and stopped working half way? What if he did the job even more terribly than before? What if this, what if that?

The next day, magically, everything turned out better. All the paint imperfections were fixed, the bad joints of the crown moldings were replaced with good pieces. The painter was still a little grumpy, but he was doing it.

Damn. I hate it when anger rules, cos I suck at it.

On a happier note, I finally finished painting my frame! Yay! The frame was purchased separately (Rp.40.000), it's raw wood, so it didn't need much work, the Rangda (a character from an old Balinese tale) was Rp.35.000. I am sure they were overpriced, but since the lady who sold them were kind enough to tell us stories about the Balinese tale, I felt it was ok to pay a little higher.

The Rangda and the frame was put together in a frame shop for HK$40, with a pale pink cardboard background (I wanted shocking pink but he didn't have such color), and I painted the frame with a bright and pretty provence yellow shade.

It's gonna look so good on my red entrance wall.

My Home, My Colors

Remember the colors I added to the flat?
Sure they look great on the flat, but do I look great in them?
Let's see...

My red entrance & I? Hawt or Nawt?

The grey living/dining. Don't I just pop?

I've always loved yellow. Should I not?

I looked crap in blue. What do you think?

Top = super comfy cotton bamboe tunic from Pasar Seni Sukowati, Bali, Rp.15.000
Necklace = Argyle Center, HK$20
Jeans = Marks and Spencer, HK$250
Sandals = Wing On, HK$50

Living with Colors

Finally! Beige ain't gonna be the star no more, bitches ^_^
First layer of red for the entrance. It shocked the heck outta my neighbor who happened to pass by and took a peek. I wanted a wow factor for the entrance, and red's ought to do it.

Grey is the new beige. This is my neutral, for the biggest part of the flat, living and dining, a base for me to slap on colors, blacks and whites later.

Something bright to keep the creative juices flowing. Yellow for study cum dressing room.

After all that excitement, I'd need a dose of calm. Very pretty blue for bedroom.

I love living with colors.
