My 5 Tips to Photograph Kids - aka My Naughty Boy

OB doesn't follow any photographic instructions such as "smile", "make V sign", "don't move", "look into the lens, baby".
So here are some tips to photograph naughty kids like him :D

1. Be Patient & Be Quick
Wait patiently for golden moments, and when the moment arrives, be ready to fire that shot.
This moment when he looks into my lens happen only in a split second. I had to point my lens waiting for the moment for a bit. Arm starting to ache, nose starting to sweat, but it was worth it :)
Big aperture (f/ 1.4 here), plenty of natural light, fast shutter speed (1/80 here)

2. Get over blurry/out-of-focus pictures
Sometimes you get beautiful smiles like this but you don't get the perfect focus. Get over it, make it work, and frame that photo anyway :D

3. Very close up objects make beautiful foreground
That white flare is actually a pillow placed very close to my lens. It gives the shot a heavenly effect.

4. Get them to do things they love
Most of the time, I've made my peace for never having my son posing against a beautiful background that I wanted. So, I often photograph him when he's watching his favorite shows on iPad (Thomas the tank engine, Chip & Dale...) or listening to dad reading him a story book. His eyes sparkles when he does things that he loves.

5. Place the point of interest behind you
Not the case of this picture. The iPad was on my left, that's why he made that funny face when Chip & Dale tricked Donald Duck yet again. I should've placed the iPad behind me :)
Oh gosh, I need an assistant.
Have fun & take lots of pics. Every moment is precious!
What I used to take these pics:
Canon EOS 7D & 50mm f/1.4 lens
iPad with his favorite shows

DIY Repurposed Upcycled Home Decor & Toy - Happy World Environment Day
Some of the fun repurposed/upcycled things in our little home :)

This is made of cardboard from a toy box with shredded & crunched brochure.

So easy & so fun.
The feature wall in our flat.

The most left is a map from Skyrim (SC's an avid gamer), crunched up and fitted into a cheap frame. We also use cutouts from old magazine, an old postcard, and accessories that I don't frequently wear anymore. They look great on the wall!

Magazine cutouts make really cute wall art :)
This is a super old & unused table lamp we found in SC's grandma's place in China.

We simply changed the bulb and use it.

Works perfectly & look oh-so-good!
My favorite. Kowloon Dairy milk glass bottles.

They are perfect for these water plants.
Happy World Environment Day!

Apart from not letting things go to waste, we adore the rustic aesthetics of repurposed things & doing these projects helps keeping our creative juices flowing too!

Holiday Activity - Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Garden

Just a quick shot before we went out.
A headband family moment.

SC doesn't wanna do his hair on holidays, and he wanted baby M to learn the benefits of headbands...
We went to Hong Kong zoological and botanical garden, planned to enjoy the scenery...

Baby M LOVES fountains.

And enjoy the animals...
...but baby M got really naughty, SC was frustrated and had to take a break.

Baby M refused to sit in his stroller, always wanted to be carried, yet he struggled if we carried him...and if he didn't get what he wanted, he does this...

Lying on the floor kicking and crying... oh my! People must've thought we were some sort of abusive parents!
Finally we settled with releasing the little monster in a playground.

Much better.
After a bit of baby flirtage, he was ready to call it a day.
Phew...
Warning! A show-offy bird shot coming up...
...

At least mama's photographic obsession was fulfilled.
On SC: my denim shirt from Maple, denim pants from Kitterick, I forgot where the sandals were from, unbranded headband
On baby M: Baby GAP tee, H&M herringbone denim, Converse sneakers
On mama: well, no one took pictures of mama... T_T

Ultra Festive Vintage Sweater & Some Holiday Outfits

My favorite outfit during the holidays! Look at my vintage sweater. So festiveeee!

And I love this el cheapo hat that I bought for SC, which is a not-so-secret code for "I bought it for myself". Heheheh.
Another fantastic thing, my perpetual bad hair day is slowly leaving me. Bye byeeeee, I won't miss you at all! Don't ever come back!
Here are some lazy outfits from the holidays...mostly of baby M, because mama & papa didn't change out of pajamas & chunky sweater....

SC in old Uniqlo fleece jacket & adidas stretchy pants; baby M in el cheapo but super soft and cute turtleneck sweater from Sham Shui Po, fluffy pants and leggings and socks (grandma always insists that we don't make baby M wear enough clothes heheheh).

Baby M in H&M hat and grandpa cardi.

Baby M in H&M baby girl hoodies with cute bunny ears.
Now make me jealous with all your glamorous holiday outfits...I have a box of tissues to wipe my tears at the ready :D

Snoopy's World - Sha Tin - Hong Kong

Where did we go last weekend?
We went to Sha Tin, since we wanted to get an el cheapo baby high chair for baby M. And since we're in Sha Tin, we paid Snoopy and his friends a visit :)

Did baby M like it?

He wasn't impressed by Snoopy and the gang...since they're not something he can chew on ^_*
But he was pretty happy seeing so many kids running around. He kept shouting "Eh! Eh!".
Hmm, that's not how we make friends, son ^_^'

Mama's obligatory shot. Noticed the sour smile and the limp hair? All because of the heat and humidity.

Snoopy greets you with a smile...

We'll be back later when it's cooler and baby M is bigger enough to appreciate non-chewable characters ^_^
PS. Baby M's wearing Snoopy and Woodstock tee from H&M (of course!)
PPS. We had a lovely lunch here

Baby M Having A Ball

Baby loves his new toys.

They're so much fun!

But be careful!

As much as he loves the balls...
He loves our chair more...

...or climbing up papa's legs.

More pics posted on my Facebook Page.
