Flat Renovation Progress

We want our flat to be old skool and classic, and we want to achieve that with least possible amount of money ^_^
On the contrary to my previous flat, which was super colorful, this time I want it in more neutral colors.

Here are some details that I look forward to in the new flat.
Bathroom hardware

Ceiling fan + light

Main door handle. I can't stand the rose gold "antique" finish, so we painted them black.

Open kitchen. Too bad there's no bar. There's going to be a TV resting against that half a wall. Too bad, but no choice :(

Bathroom floor. I've always wanted this since... forever!

Hong Kong old skool cafe floor tiles.

Faux exposed brick wall. We're gonna have this hand painted in white because the flat is gonna be too dark if we kept this color. Sad but no choice T_T

I'll post more updates later (remind me?), and here's more pics of the reno progress and the "before" pics.

New Flat - Before & Reno Progress

I am officially the worst life blogger ever.  I haven't been blogging much about my life despite so many things that had happened. One major one that has been taking a lot of our time and resources is the purchase of our new flat. We purchased it quite a while ago and we are currently in the process of renovating it. We pretty much had to remove everything and redo everything from scratch as it is quite an old flat. We are using SC's secondary school friend's design firm. They are super pro and have saved us a lot of headaches in terms of project management.

Here are some of the "before" pics:

SC's mom has also done a Chinese four-corner ceremony for us.
If you wanna check out more "before" pics, I've posted them on my facebook page
I'll post more renovation progress later ;)

Baby M's Sleeping Buddy

Baby M's Sleeping Buddy
Yep. Baby M has a sleeping buddy.

We actually didn't want him to have a "security blanket" which he clings to until adulthood...but since our helper made him sleep with this little kitten..he's grown attached to it.
Baby M's Sleeping Buddy
He smiles at the sight of it, chew on the kitten's ears, nose and tail, and sleeps better with it.

Oh well...
Baby M's Sleeping Buddy
I guess we might have to bring this kitten everywhere on our future holidays...

I Can Finally Write My Baby's Name! 外國人寫中文字

IMG_1661
I don't speak Chinese (I am ashamed of this), and I surely can't write Chinese to save my life. But I wanted to know how to write baby Marcus' Chinese name. So, one fine day, I asked SC to show me how to write it step by step, I practice, and practiced, and practiced....and I finally got it right! I could write my son's name!
雖然我係華僑, 但係我唔識睇, 寫, 中文..但突然有一日, 周身痕想學寫傲B個名! 咁我就去叫SC教我啦, 罰抄左幾百次, 終於都寫到傲B同SC個名啦! (個日..)

Marketing Victim - Babies on the Go Event on Facebook by Huggies HK

Batik Baby
Remember not so long ago when I asked for your support to click "Like" on Huggies Hong Kong page and baby Marcus' photo?
To those who have clicked Like and supported us, please accept our sincere gratitude.
Did baby Marcus make it as one of the "top" 60 babies whose photograph get printed on Huggies' bus?
No he didn't.

Was I upset? Very very much.
I've never worked so hard to get votes in my life, not for me, not for anyone. SC and I studiously harassed our friends, coworkers, relatives, gamer friends and you, my blog readers, for votes. I sincerely apologized if I had annoyed you, I know how you don't like to "like", but yet I still asked for your "like". But, could you blame new parents for trying?

Didn't he have enough votes?
We never knew. He had close to 400 votes, but he didn't make it. We are happy for the babies who made it, despite the fact that some of them had less votes than baby Marcus. The contest was not transparent, there was no clear indication of how many qualified votes each baby has.

When I saw the announcement and found out that he didn't make it while others with less votes did, well, saying I was extremely sad was an  understatement. We wanted to know why we didn't make it. We asked Huggies for a transparent explanation, and they posted some kind of a standard reply that mentioned disqualification, suspicious votes, involving bogus accounts and suspicious offshore investment accounts.

I was even more puzzled. Since we worked very hard for our votes, we monitored our votes obsessively. When we harassed a friend, we literally made sure he/she voted correctly, and checked the votes meticulously. Some votes from people who aren't in our FB friend list are really expected since I've asked for support from my blog readers and some very kind friends have actually asked their family and friends to support too. We are extremely and forever grateful for this level of overwhelming support. I am Indonesian living in Hong Kong, it is normal if not expected of me to have non Hong Kong Chinese friends, right? Did they classify all of my overseas support as "suspicious"? Is that fair? Isn't that highly discriminative? Whatever it was, why couldn't they explain? Why couldn't they clarify everything transparently? Are they hiding anything fishy?

I was so upset, but I didn't plan to do anything about it. What am I gonna do? I am an eternal pessimist who generally expect and tolerate unfairness all the time. I planned to just be very sad and stuff my face with chocolates or maybe buy lots of expensive handbags to cheer myself up. But SC reminded me of why I should not do that. When I felt that something is unfair, I should not just hide and cry at a corner without even letting myself be heard. Don't go down without a fight. It was like a slap on my face. But I knew he's right. This is what I've always admired of him. He's started his efforts to let his voice be heard, and I supported him.

Some people think we're nuts. Some people said we took this thing way to seriously. So what if baby Marcus doesn't end up on that bus? Does that make him less adorable? Absolutely not. Does that mean that mama's photography skill is crap? Nope. Does this make him less loved? No. Does this make him any less happy? No. So, why does it matter?

It matters because we are result oriented people who take things seriously and work hard for them.
It matters because it's unfair to us and those who had supported us, friends, family, friends of friends, and blog readers.
It matters because I am learning not to tolerate unfairness.

The marketing and PR team is probably now patting each other's back and is laughing all the way to the bank to cash out their bonuses, but they've successfully disappointed this brand's customers. Well done.

SC's Shirt, Vintage Jacket & Campaigning for Baby Marcus

SC's still in the hospital having some tests done. Wearing SC's shirt today, but it didn't make me miss him less (Does my saying this make you wanna puke? Sorry!)

Wore another cardi under the vintage jacket, the weather is warmer today (22C) but it gets really cold in the office.

Campaigning for Baby Marcus to win a photo contest to have his photo printed on Hong Kong Huggies Bus has helped SC and I take our minds off his being in a hospital etc...
Thanks so much for all your support, guys. Greatly appreciate it!

If you haven't voted and you want to, here are the handy links:

First, click LIKE on this page:

and then click LIKE on Baby Marcus' picture:

Thanks againnnn, we don't want Baby Marcus to miss the bus, don't we? ^_^

#365FASHIONSHUFFLE & Life Continues

What I wore on Saturday, I went to Zumba (like a dance workout class), exercising for the first time since I had Marcus. It felt so damn good! No make up/blush can replicate the natural flushed look we get from a good workout. Too  bad this crappy shot didn't show it ^_^'

Reebok tee, threadless hoodie, giordano puffy vest, nike cross training sneakers, unbranded socks and pants

On Sunday, I didn't step outside even one bit, our helper had a day off, I took care of Marcus, did some cooking and SC was not feeling well. I didn't step out of my pajamas, didn't put any single brush of make up...the look pretty much matched how I felt. Surprise, surprise, I don't look fabulous unmade-up. Heheheh

In the evening, we ended up scaring the shit out of ourselves by watching Paranormal Activity 2. Note to self, watching horror movies could result in very vivid horrible imagination, not good for taking care of a baby at night. Worse, there's a baby in the movie too. Good thing I specifically asked my helper not to watch as she has to take care of Marcus alone most of the time. Oppps.

Unbranded everything

SC has been feeling unwell and despite some medications the doctor gave him, he didn't feel better. He went for further check ups today, and no, it wasn't swine flu. Ideally, we should be happy, but we are not. We don't want something worse than swine flu (knocking on every piece of wood I can see), given SC's history of thyroid cancer, anything as small as a persistent slight fever, headache and hot flashes horrified us to our bones, I surely hope it's nothing that we cannot handle, I pray to God. We cried ourselves to sleep with baby Marcus in our arms last night T_T
The outfit pretty much reflected my gloomy mood. Mostly blacks.
Muji turtleneck tee, Chapter7 cropped double breasted jacket, unbranded high waisted pants from Maple, bossini socks, wanko shoes & H&M bag

It's a bit unusual for me to share less than happy bits of our lives here, but I figured that my blog has to reflect our lives, right? I am trying to learn the power of sharing.

Marcus' First Real Play Date

Last Sunday, baby Marcus went for his first real play date.
Marcus has met Alice before, but he was too small to know anything. This time, he got a little wiser, just a little though ;)

Here are some eye candy shots from the play date.
Please refrain from consuming sugary snacks while browsing, the sweetness here might jack up your blood sugar level :D

Sweet!

Sweeter!

Did Marcus know a good future girlfriend material when he saw one?
Marcus' Play Date with Alice
Pretty, smart, and kind.
Don't let her slip away from your fingers, son.

Marcus, be good to your potential future papa in law.
Marcus' Play Date with Alice
Remember, biting his fingers, scratching his face, pulling his hair and smacking him on the face are NOT expressions of respect.

Marcus' Play Date with Alice
Mama, Alice told me that hair bands aren't for boys.
But I remember papa used to wear that a lot?

Ehm...err...

..errr...ehm ehm...

No comment, son.

Poor Marcus has really limited number of toys at home...

...and he attacked Alice's toys like a hungry monster!
Aiyoyooo...

...and now, get ready for...

Girl vs Boy

If you could choose? Would you like a baby girl or a baby boy?

I don't mind either...but I thought having a baby boy would make parents, parents in law and your partner happier...growing up in an Asian/Chinese culture and all...

Someone I know was given a luxury property when she gave birth to a boy (wow!), and I heard that some others who kept having girls were pressured by in laws to "produce" a boy or the husband will have to resort to getting a second wife *shudder*

Can you believe that it's still happening in this century?

Anyway, a boy or a girl...I don't mind and I know that SC feels the same.
When we found out that we're having a boy...we're happy. The only person who was disappointed was SC's father, he said he always wanted a girl (because he had 3 naughty boys)...aaanyway...we're all happy. A boy could play Xbox, basketball, etc etc etc with his papa, which means more shopping time for mama. Heheheh.

The thing is...
...when it comes to shopping for baby outfits...

THERE ARE TOO MANY CUTE BABY GIRL OUTFITS OUT THERE!

....and the choices for baby boy? So limited!

So, one fine day...when SC and I were browsing for some baby clothes so that lil' SC won't end up naked...I couldn't help but gawk at cute baby girl outfits...ruffles, flowers, pinks, oranges, reds, patterns, cute, sweet, adorable, ADORABLES!

As I smiled at a cute a ruffled pink overall that says "Daddy's girl", the sales lady approached me and asked "Ahhhh! You're having a baby girl!"
Me:....*face turned violent red*....*cough cough* no...I'm having a boy
Sales lady: (!!!) But...oh...I thought...because you were happily checking out baby girl clothes...
Me: ....*face turned deep purple*...I know I know...but these are too cute!
Sales lady: *knowing smile, changed topic (thank God)* ...it looks like you're almost due...well, enjoy browsing...
Me: ....*embarrassed smile, slowly drifting to the exit*...

I guess this is why some of my friends are dying to have baby girls...it's for the shopaholic mama :D

Baby outfit makers, can you please make more adorable baby boy outfits? What? You don't want my money? :D

Hong Kong Summer Rain

Rainy Bokeh
Rainy summer days...
It's romantic and soothing, if you're in the comfort, air conditioned shelter of your home.
But if you're outside?
Hot, wet and sticky.
Just saying :D

The above picture was taken looking out of my kitchen window on a thunderous rainy night.

Dog Person/Cat Person?

You might not be a dog person...
But look at them eyes! That face!
Dog Dog Dog
Oh...how could our heart not melt?

Meet SC's lil bro's dogs, Yung-yung (the dodgy white male "maltese"?) and Ah Yee (the naughty brown toy poodle girl below)
Dog Dog Dog
Ah Yee is super smart, freakishly human-like, charming and ladylike, although she gets very very bitchy these days; while Yung-Yung is the little silly happy camper of the house.
Dog Dog Dog
I always make sure that I wear longish pants when I visit them, as they'd scratch the heck outta your legs once you come through the door.

Ah Yee's other hobby is...
Dog Dog Dog
Manhandling (or doghandling?) people. Look at what she did to SC...

Ah Yee...
Dog Dog Dog
Could you get your paws off...ahem...my...nipular area?

What d'ya want?
Dog Dog Dog

She always wants a kiss....
Dog Dog Dog
...and yes.
On. The. Lips.
Aiyaya!

SC is more of a cat person...but he doesn't mind some occasional dog affection.
Do I look like a dog person or a cat person?
